The Importance Of Having A Website

The digital world is like an enormously dense jungle. Between all the information and data being produced, published, and transferred, it’s very easy to get lost exploring it. This is where having a website comes in handy – even if you don’t have business.

Having your own website is similar owning a piece of land in the real world. Once you’ve managed to secure some digital ‘real estate’ for yourself, there’s a lot you can do to make it one of the best choices you’ve ever made.

Let’s take a look at some of these upsides.

You Own It

Unlike having an account on Facebook, Instagram, or any other social media platform, you can actually own your website. As long as you can find a way to host your site (either hosting it yourself or have someone else host it), your website will always remain with you until you shut it down or sell it.

On the other hand, you don’t own the social media platform you use. On Facebook or Instagram, you are simply a user with an account. If the platform disappears, you does all your presence and information, leaving you with practically nothing.

You Can Build What You Want

You don’t need to have a business if you want to start a website. In fact, think of a website as a digital book – you’re free to add whatever you’d like, however you see fit. Comparing it to social media platform again, while there are many things you can do there, you are limited to what it’s designed to do.

However, with a single website, you could start a blog (a digital journal), a gallery (a portfolio for your creative work), and a storefront (integrating e-commerce) under the same roof. The potential of what your website can be is only limited by your imagination.

You Have A Digital Address

Since owning a website is much like owning some digital land, you also get a digital address (your website’s name). As of 2019, there are over 1.94 billion websites on the internet. This makes having an address people can search up to find you an important thing to have!

Imagine having owning a business that didn’t have an address in the real world. How will people ever find you? The same goes if you ever plan on expanding your reach over the internet. Without a website containing information about your business, where will visitors go to learn more at their convenience?

Your Own Marketing Page

One of the main benefits of having a website for your business (or even just for yourself), is it can be used to solely market your products or service (or yourself if you are looking for a job). Whereas if you are solely relying on social media to do so, you face competing with other individuals and companies pushing out their marketing messages.

A marketing campaign hosted on your own website can last as long as you want it to, unconstrained by the limitation of your advertising budget. In fact, your marketing efforts are more effective with a website than without. With one, you could direct visitors from a Facebook ad to a landing or sales page on your site – more opportunities to convert leads into customers!

Your Own Digital Asset

In all likelihood, a website will be the very first digital asset you own (not counting social media platforms; you don’t own it). From your website, more assets are created over time: the content you create, the audience that follows you, the community you have created, the email list you’ve built.

All of these are invaluable assets when it comes to accomplishing your business objectives. You want to find out if a new product you have in mind will be received well? Send out a survey or questionnaire to your email list. You want a strong launch to a new book you’ve jut written? You already have dedicated audience you can depend on to see your book.

I don’t think in any scenario a business would complain about having a much easier time carrying out their marketing plans.

Another Way To Grow Your Online Presence

If you are already operating on several social media platforms, having a website is an excellent way to tie them together and extend your reach. For instance, on a single piece of content you could add in links to all your social media channels.

At the same time, you could also direct traffic to your website from your social media channels by informing readers they can learn more on your website. Having more outlets of exposure increases your visibility on the internet.

This in turn provides you with more traffic and visitors, that in the long run will yield a sizable advantage over not having a website.

These are just 6 reasons why you should get a website for your business! No doubt there are many more reasons why should, but know that it’s never to late to start today!
